RANET began the Alert Watcher activity following the Indian Ocean tsunami.  In an effort to keep key decision makers aware of events and potential threats, the program developed an SMS messaging system.  Subscribers to the system receive a text message on their mobile device, which pulls key information from messages and statements issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC).  

The RAW system is not meant as a mass public means of alert and notification, and as such is limited to key regional and national personnel involved in public warning and emergency management.   Even for operational entities, the RAW is not meant to replace official means of communication.  Individuals not meeting our service requirement can receive messages directly from the PTWC via e-mail.  The public can register for the PTWC e-mail message service at:  http://www.prh.noaa.gov/ptwc/subscribe.php

RANET is currently developing new modules and offerings under the RAW program.  As available these will be posted to this site.  Individuals and warning authorities interested in more information about RAW can contact raw 'at' ranet.mobi.
